I'm looking for a movie to get lost in.?
Really get lost in... A good example is solaris w/ george clooney...the spacey sweeping ambient soundtrack really pulled me in... Something I watched with my mouth and eyes open.
Now, I'm not looking specifically for the sci fi genre, just anything to be engrossed with.

RE: answers so far... war movies are pretty taken care of, I have the majority of them, as well as band of brothers. I agree they're very engrossing... I will look into all of the movies I *haven't* seen however.
Oh, and I love how often fifth element is suggested to people, it is one of my favorite movies
the most engrossing movie i have ever seen is mulholland drive. it is very oblique, much like solaris, and is extremely textured, more so than any other movie i have ever seen. it is virtually plotless, and what plot there is is told in a non-linear fashion, and it is up to you to work it out. that is another reason why it is so engrossing, because it creates a mystery that you have to solve yourself, and you can debate forever. it is the ultimate interactive movie. it is also dream-like, and the sound design helps to create the sense of getting lost in a world of dreams, where everything is slightly off. its an extraordinary movie, on another level completely from similar movies like donnie darko. my only warning is that it is a love/hate movie, and if you absolutely must have a plot to follow in your movies then i wouldnt recommend it. a lot of people have seen it and cant handle the fact the movie doesnt hold you by the hand. but thats what makes it engrossing, so i suggest giving it a try
