why do vent pipes go through the roof?
My question is why do sewer vent pipes exit the attic through the roof instead of through an area protected by an overhang like a soffit? It seems a damn shame to put a hole in the roof of a house to stick an ugly piece of PVC through it.
What does methan have to do with it going through the soffit vs. the roof? It still vents to the outside either way.
Ok, so I take it that it's the law and that methane gas has something to do with it. Both good points but also quite vague. Why is it the law that the vent must go through the roof as opposed to the soffit. I understand why it needs to vent to the outside so please don't answer that question again.
It has to vent to an area that would let it get into the breeze. If it vented to an area like under your roof the gas could be drawn into your window or into any roof vents.
