Had a flash flood and my 2" gas water pump is now at the bottom of my pond. I've located it, can it be saved?

Has been sitting there for 5 days now. I've heard do not pull it out until your ready to work on it. Well I'm ready. Any suggestions as to what to do after I get it out. It's only 6 months old.

You were told correctly in not to mess with it until you are ready as exposing it to the air will speed up the rust process.

5 days is a long time though.... rust may have already taken a toll.

First thing you should do is see if the engine will turn over. If its frozen or stuck... its junk. If you can get it to turn over pull the oil drain on it if it has one... if not, pull a spark plug, and draing everything out of it. Then fill it to the top with oil. The oil will disperse any remaining water. Crank the engine a few times then drain all the oil, and refill it again with oil. Crank the engine by hand, dont' try to start it, for a while to get the oil worked in there good. Then drain all that oil out. Then fill it with gasoline, and turn the engine a few times. Drain the gas out.

Make sure you replace all the filters, replace the oil to appropriate levels, then get it running as quick as you can.
