why do rotor blades/car tyres appear to spin slowly? ?
I've noticed that rotary spinning objects like car tyres or helicopter blades appear to spin slowly, almost motionless. Is this an optical illusion?
Depends on either the illumination (like a strobo light) or the sampling rate of the camera that sends the signal to your TV that produces the effect. In plain daylight you will not see it unless you start blinking in a way that get's in sync with the blades, which is possible.
